How should you choose a US VPN node?

When choosing a US node, check the exit type, client compatibility and billing. HKUVPN serves Hong Kong users with US datacenter connections, separate accounts and subscriptions, and currently shared exits.

What is a US node?

A node is the server your client connects to; the exit IP is the address a destination sees. HKUVPN currently uses Los Angeles datacenter exits. Hong Kong describes the intended users, not a Hong Kong exit location.

Datacenter, residential and dedicated IPs describe different properties. Current plans share US datacenter exits while keeping subscription credentials and data allowances separate. If you require residential broadband, read the IP comparison first.

HY2 and Trojan: choose for your network

HY2 (Hysteria2) uses UDP; Trojan uses TCP. Import your subscription, then choose a node in the Harbor group. If HY2 times out while Trojan works, use Trojan and record the network and error.

A protocol name or one latency test cannot guarantee bandwidth, peak-hour speed or access to another service. Local Wi-Fi, routing, packet loss, server load and the destination all affect the result.

Compare data, validity and availability

Published Starter, Plus and Max plans are HK$29, HK$69 and HK$129 for 100, 250 and 500 GiB respectively, each lasting 30 days. They differ in data allowance, not guaranteed speed priority. Check live plans and capacity on the pricing page before checkout.

Uploads and downloads both count. Payment is one-time with no automatic renewal. Estimate browsing, file transfers and usage across devices; AI memberships, API credits and paid clients are separate costs.

Import a US VPN subscription on your device

Mac users can use Clash Verge Rev or Shadowrocket; iPhone and iPad use Shadowrocket; Windows uses Clash Verge Rev; Android uses FlClash; Linux can use Clash Verge Rev or FlClash. Follow each client's official download and compatibility guidance.

  • Sign in and check that your subscription is active, unexpired and has data remaining.
  • Copy the general subscription for Shadowrocket, or the Clash subscription for Clash Verge Rev and FlClash.
  • Import and update, select the configuration and node, then enable the system proxy or mobile VPN connection.

Verify with real traffic

Check that your client handles browser traffic, then open an HTTPS page and verify the exit country and IP. If browsing works but a terminal or another app does not, check its proxy settings. Configure TUN using official guidance only when needed.

A shared US exit is not a residential or household node and cannot guarantee account eligibility on another platform. Verify the connection first, then use the specific error to decide the next step.
